When Anxiety Leads The Way

Feeling anxious can sneak up on us—tight chest, racing thoughts, maybe even a sense that we’re just not safe in our own skin. When we feel unsafe, even in subtle ways, our bodies often respond by holding the breath. It’s like a silent bracing for impact. The problem is, this breath-holding sends danger signals to the brain and keeps us stuck in survival mode. Breathwork gently interrupts that cycle—helping us feel grounded, calm, and more present in our bodies.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. One simple technique I love is taking two short inhales through the nose, followed by one long, slow exhale through the mouth. Try it a few times and notice what shifts. Your shoulders may soften, your heart rate may slow, and your thoughts might feel a little less intense. It’s a way of telling your nervous system, “I’m okay right now.”

The best part? Breathwork is always with you. You don’t need a special room, expensive tools, or even a lot of time. Just a moment to check in. Self-care is not selfish—it’s survival with softness. And if anxiety is something you’re navigating, I’m here to help you create space for calm in your day, one breath at a time.
