EMDR Therapy
Heal old wounds and unlock the life you’re meant to live.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
It's a treatment that helps you process hard or overwhelming experiences so they don’t feel as intense, stuck, or disruptive.
Think of it like this:
Your brain has a natural way of healing, similar to how a cut heals on your skin. But when something overwhelming happens, that healing process can get blocked. EMDR helps your brain get unstuck.
How Does It Work?
During EMDR, we talk less than traditional therapy. Instead, we allow your brain to do the work using something called bilateral stimulation—activating both sides of your brain.
This can happen through:
-
Eye movements (watching my fingers move back and forth)
-
Tapping (you can tap your shoulders or knees)
While you focus on a memory or a feeling, the bilateral movement helps your brain reprocess it more healthily.
What Will I Feel?
Everyone’s experience is different, but you might notice after:
-
Thoughts or memories popping up
-
Emotions that rise and then fade
-
Your body feels lighter or calmer
You are always in control. We go at your pace, and we pause anytime you need. You don’t need to re-live a traumatic incident in detail—we focus more on what you notice now.
What Will We Do Together?
Here’s what the process usually looks like:
-
Prep & Resource Building – We’ll build tools to help you feel safe and grounded (like visualizing a calming place).
-
History Taking & Targeting – We gently identify memories or feelings to process.
-
Processing – You focus on one experience while using bilateral stimulation. I guide you through it.
-
Closing – We always end with grounding exercises so you feel steady before you leave, and have strategies to handle memories that might pop up.
FAQs
Do I have to talk a lot about the trauma?
Not at all. You don’t have to say everything out loud; just enough so I know where to guide the process.
What if I get overwhelmed?
We’ll stop, breathe, and use the calming tools you'll learn at the beginning. You won’t be alone in it.
Does EMDR really work?
Yes—EMDR is well-researched, evidence-based, and often works faster than talk therapy for trauma.
